Wayne and Sue Wolfe of Five Mountain Hardware in Shickshinny have hosted the port-a-potty at the Union Township Boat Launch for the WHOLE SEASON.  Five Mountain Hardware is packed with quality merchandise that will help you complete about any task you want.  If they don’t have something in stock their knowledgeable employees will order it.  I sometimes visit them several times a day.

We require at least two people to be present when power tools are used on the trail. One person operates the chainsaw or tractor/brush hog and the other looks out for the safety of the operator and people enjoying the trail. When a safety person is needed an email is sent to a list of volunteers. If a person is able to provide support he or she emails me at and we decide on the specific time and location. Let me know if you would like to be added to this list.

We are working this year to establish a buffer zone alongside the trail.  We have the small brush hog pictured and the tractor front end loader works great for the large multi-flora roses. We are thankfully not alone, We acknowledge PPL, Thomas Crane and family, Shickshinny Borough, PA Fish and Boat Commission, SCI Retreat, and Hunlock Township for also helping us with vegetation control.  SCI Retreat mowed the edges all the way to Shickshinny and plan on doing it again when they can.  We will address the vegetation on the trail surface sometime later this month.  The trail will look wild in places from time to time, but please know we are working on it with the resources and person power available.
