NEW SUSQUEHANNA WARRIOR TRAIL CONSTRUCTION!
We are excited to announce new trail construction has already started. It will complete the section of the trail through Spencer’s Salvage Yard in Salem Township and extend the trail from the Garden Drive-In in Plymouth Township to a point across US Rt. 11 from the Flamingo Diner in the West Nanticoke section of Plymouth Township.  Improvements to an existing parking area to create a trail head in Canal Park is also part of this construction phase.
The Susquehanna Warrior Trail is built on the former railroad bed of the Delaware Lehigh and Western Railroad which is now owned by UGI Penn Natural Gas and SUNOCO for use as a utility right-of-way.  The trail is approximately 10 feet wide with 2 1/2 foot shoulders utilizing a 15 foot wide surface easement with in the right-of-way.
The first 11 miles of the trail, constructed in 2007, stretches from the PPL Riverlands in Salem Township to the Garden Drive-In in Plymouth Township paralleling Route 11.
The $400,000 for this new trail construction comes from three sources; a $320,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, $40,000 from the **Berwick Health and Wellness Fund of the Central Susquehanna Community Foundation, and $40,000 from the Marcellus Shale Legacy Fund via a unanimous vote by the Luzerne County Council.
TPW Design Studios of York, Pa. is providing Landscape Architectural Design support and Dan Rutledge Excavating Inc. of Tyler Hill, Pa. is our construction contractor.
Grand Opening Celebration details will be announced when construction is complete.
